Aging in Place in Union Committee
The Aging in Place in Union Committee was formed in the spring of 2017. The committee was charged by Town Manager Jay Feyler to look at the unique needs of Union’s senior population.
The mission of this committee is identified as the ability to stay in your home safely as you age. The committee vision is Union is an age friendly community. We are a community that helps meet the changing needs of its aging residents by connecting them with services and support that allows them to stay in their own homes.
This committee meets at 1:00 p.m. the first Monday of each month except when this falls on a holiday. We meet in the William L. Pullen Municipal Building Meeting Room. (We have been meeting by town zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic.)
The committee has organized and put on luncheons for seniors. These luncheons have provided socialization and for the distribution of information of helpful resources for seniors. This committee continues to work on keeping resources current with frequent updates to a Community Resource Guide. An example of a resource is the “Sand for Seniors” program which is offered through the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Seniors may apply for this service through the Union town office.
